Chairman, IUHW

The International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025. Since its establishment, our university has provided an education guided by the founding principle of "realization of a society where people live together" from leading professionals in various healthcare and welfare fields. To date, our university has produced approximately 37,000 graduates into the medical and welfare fields.
In 2020, IUHW Narita Hospital was opened as the main hospital for the School of Medicine. This 642-bed hospital launched unprecedented facilities including as follows: the International Center for Clinical Infectious Diseases, which prevents pathogens from crossing the international borders as a hospital situated near an international airport; the Center for Genomic Diagnosis, which deals with genome analysis; the Radiotherapy Cancer Center, which handles advanced diagnosis and treatments; the Center for Preventive Medicine, one of the largest medical checkup facilities in Japan accepting up to 200 people a day by capitalizing on latest medical devices; and the International Remote Diagnostic Center, which connects overseas facilities including our group medical checkup center in Vietnam. We have also introduced state-of-the-art medical technologies typified by a tomotherapy machine, an extremely rare system in Chiba Prefecture. By accommodating a wide range of facilities and amenities, the IUHW Narita Hospital provides advanced medical services not only to Narita citizens or residents in Chiba Prefecture but also many people in other areas.
Indeed, while contributing to regional medical care at its core mission, the Hospital responds to international medical needs in terms of cultures, food, and languages, and offers high quality medical care and services to patients overseas. Through this way, we seek to become a world-class hub hospital representing Asia. Your continuous support would be highly appreciated.
Greetings from the University President

President, IUHW

The International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) is Japan's first comprehensive university of medicine and welfare, which opened in 1995 with an aim of fostering professionals in medicine and welfare and improving their status. The total of approximately 10,000 students, including those in graduate school, are learning at our university that holds 11 faculties and 28 departments on five campuses in the following cities: Otawara in Tochigi Prefecture, Narita in Chiba Prefecture; Minato-ku in Tokyo; Odawara in Kanagawa Prefecture; and Okawa in Fukuoka Prefecture. In 2017, the School of Medicine was newly established at the Narita Campus and began training physicians. Based on an innovative, world-standard curriculum, we strive to send off physicians who have proficient and comprehensive medical skills and an international mindset to contribute to team-based medicine/care in clinical settings in and outside Japan in the future.
In March 2025, all medical school graduates of a 2025 class achieved a 100% pass rate on the national medical licensing exam in Japan. Combined with the previous graduates, this placed our university at the top of 82 medical schools nationwide. Additionally, a significant number of our students passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), in both STEP 1 (Basic Science Knowledge) and STEP 2 (Clinical Knowledge), ranking among the top nationwide. To commemorate the university's 30th anniversary in April 2025, we established the Department of Medical Technology and Sciences at the Otawara Campus, further advancing our efforts to cultivate talent and provide education that meets societal needs.
Furthermore, since IUHW Narita Hospital serves as the main hospital for the School of Medicine among six affiliated hospitals, it has been strengthening its function as a training facility for our medical students who are willing to learn to play an active role both domestically and internationally. This, we believe, could ultimately assure high quality medical care to the local community.
Placing a priority on safe and sophisticated medical services for local people, we focus on the development of excellent human resources. We sincerely ask for your continued understanding and cooperation.
Greetings from the Hospital Director
YOSHINO Ichiro
M.D., Ph. D.
Hospital Director, IUHW Narita Hospital

The International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) Narita Hospital is now in its fifth year since opening. We are working together as a team to provide more comprehensive medical care to everyone, from our local community to all those who need us. Since opening in 2020, we have made steady progress in all areas of medical care, including outpatient, inpatient, surgical, and emergency services. As a university hospital, we have also been training young medical professionals. We will continue to grow and live up to your expectations and trust.
The Hospital is characterized by its wide range of medical functions, including clinical departments and centers to cope with every disease, and by its ability to deliver meticulous medical care through cross-departmental collaboration with physicians and medical staff with advanced knowledge, skills, and abundant experience.
In April 2025, we opened the IUHW Narita Geriatric Medical Welfare Center, a combined special nursing and nursing care facility for the elderly, located next to our hospital. We have also taken over Narita Rehabilitation Hospital, known as "The Forest Hospital" in Narita City. It provides rehabilitation medical care during the recovery phase. Our acute care hospital will closely collaborate with these facilities to support medical and welfare services in the surrounding community, including acute care, rehabilitation, long-term care, and support for returning home.
Our strength also lies in mutual cooperation with group facilities nationwide and close collaboration with local medical associations and local doctors. Backed by these fortes, we will continue to provide advanced, high quality medical care to people not only in the neighboring Inba region of Chiba Prefecture but also throughout Japan. In addition, we will emphasize our efforts to expand our global medical services from now on. We would like to ask for your continuous support as always.
