Greetings from Group Chairman/University President/Hospital Director
Greetings from the Group Chairman
TAKAGI Kuninori
M.D., Ph. D.
Chairman, IUHW
Thanks to your warm support, the International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2020, having sent approximately 32,000 graduates to the medical welfare field so far. In that memorable year, we opened the main hospital for the School of Medicine, the IUHW Narita Hospital.
In 2020, Japan was in turmoil due to the global outbreak of the new coronavirus. Although the IUHW Narita Hospital was slated to open in April, it was decided to respond to a request from the government and move up its opening by one month to fulfill its mission as a university hospital and protect local medical services. Like many medical institutions across the country, we have been tackling the COVID-19 pandemic over the last 3 years, and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of you who have given us various kinds of support and cooperation.
This 642-bed hospital launched unprecedented facilities including as follows: the International Center for Clinical Infectious Diseases, which prevents pathogens from crossing the international borders as a hospital situated near an international airport; the Center for Genomic Diagnosis, which deals with genome analysis; the Radiotherapy Cancer Center, which handles advanced diagnosis and treatments; the Center for Preventive Medicine, one of the largest medical checkup facilities in Japan accepting up to 200 people a day by capitalizing on latest medical devices; and the International Remote Diagnostic Center, which connects overseas facilities including our group medical checkup center in Vietnam.
We have also introduced state-of-the-art medical technologies typified by a tomotherapy machine, an extremely rare system in Chiba Prefecture. By accommodating a wide range of facilities and devices, the IUHW Narita Hospital provides advanced medical services not only to Narita citizens or residents in Chiba Prefecture but also many people in other areas.
Indeed, while contributing to regional medical care at its core mission, the Hospital responds to international medical needs in terms of cultures, food, and languages, and offers high quality medical care and services to patients overseas. Through this way, we seek to become a world-class hub hospital representing Asia. Your continuous support would be highly appreciated.
Greetings from the University President

The International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) is Japan's first comprehensive university of medicine and welfare, which opened in 1995 with an aim of fostering professionals in medicine and welfare and improving their status. The total of approximately 10,000 students, including those in graduate school, are learning at our university that holds 10 faculties and 25 departments on five campuses in the following cities: Otawara in Tochigi Prefecture, Narita in Chiba Prefecture; Minato-ku in Tokyo; Odawara in Kanagawa Prefecture; and Okawa in Fukuoka Prefecture. In 2017, the School of Medicine was newly established at the Narita Campus and began training physicians. Based on an innovative, world-standard curriculum, we strive to send off physicians who have comprehensive medical skills and an international mindset to contribute to team-based medicine/care in clinical settings in and outside Japan in the future.
In 2017, the School of Medicine was newly established at the Narita Campus in Chiba Prefecture and began training physicians. Based on an innovative, world-standard curriculum, we aim to train physicians with comprehensive medical skills and an international mindset. Our graduates can contribute to team-based medicine and team-based care in clinical settings both in Japan and overseas.
The IUHW Narita Hospital is located close to Narita International Airport, one of Japan's air gateways. Taking this geographical advantage, the Hospital aims to be an international hospital to offer highly advanced medical services to patients in Japan and abroad. Furthermore, since it serves as the main hospital for the School of Medicine, the Hospital has been strengthening its function as a training facility for our students who are willing to learn to play an active role both domestically and internationally as internationally minded doctors. This, we believe, could ultimately assure high quality medical care to the local community.
Placing a priority on safe and sophisticated medical services for local people, the Hospital focuses on the development of excellent human resources in close collaboration with other group hospitals and facilities.
Following the establishment of the School of Medicine, the University opened the Tokyo Akasaka Campus in 2018, the Clinical Engineering Special Course at the Narita Campus in 2021, and the special advanced course called the Department of Care Worker in April 2023. As evidenced by this milestone, we have been making an effort to train human resources to meet social needs for medical care. We sincerely ask for your continued understanding and cooperation.
Greetings from the Hospital Director
YOSHINO Ichiro
M.D., Ph. D.
Hospital Director, IUHW Narita Hospital
I assumed the position of hospital director in April 2023. Based on the foundation laid by former Director Miyazaki over the past three years since the Hospital opened, we will all work together to provide even more fulfilling medical services to our patients.
Moreover, since the first students of our medical school have started their initial residency at our hospital this year, we renew our commitment as an affiliated hospital to provide them with enriched medical and healthcare education. Good doctors, good staff, and good medical care are the basis for fostering good medical professionals. We would like to enhance the advanced and high quality medical care further and grow together with the community as a hospital trusted by all of you.
The Hospital is characterized by its wide range of medical functions, including clinical departments and centers to cope with every disease, and by its ability to deliver meticulous medical care through cross-departmental collaboration with physicians and medical staff with advanced knowledge, skills, and abundant experience. Indeed, we are confident that we can respond to the needs of patients with socially important diseases, as the Hospital builds on facilities like: the International Center for Clinical Infectious Diseases, which was launched in full swing when the Hospital opened to fight against the new coronavirus; the Radiotherapy Cancer Center, boasting high precision treatment equipment that plays one of the key roles for cancer treatments; the Center for Genomic Diagnosis to promote genome medicine inevitable for treatments of intractable diseases and cancer; the Digestive Disease Center; the Spine and Spinal Cord Center; the Stroke Center; the Wound Treatment Center; Dialysis Center; and others.
We also have the following facilities to support your healthy living: the Health Promotion Center equipped with a swimming pool, gymnasium, and sauna; and the Preventive Medicine Center offering medical checkup services.
Our strength also lies in mutual cooperation with group facilities nationwide and close collaboration with local medical associations and local doctors. Backed by these fortes, we will continue to provide advanced, high quality medical care to people not only in the Inba region of Chiba Prefecture but also throughout Japan. In addition, we will emphasize our efforts to expand our global medical services from now on. We would like to ask for your continuous support as always.
